Anyway....i bought the forth book in the Magyk collection and a mystery book by Martha Grimes...kinda fall in love with Richard Jury the grim character....
Anyway...my sis-in-law bought a good book and she asked me not to buy it since she will lend it to me. Anyway...i want to have a copy of it...
The title : A thousand Splendid Suns....by Khaled Hosseini.
Man, i cried when i read the book....Hosseini is a splendid writer...his narration of the events and places are vivid to the point of touching your very soul....and Mariam and Laila...these two courageous women who try to survive and stay alive amid the political crisis and of course, the domestic crisis as well....they share an abusive husband. Hosseini makes you want to kill Rasheed the husband, shake some senses into Mariam when she idolises her father, Jalil and refuses to see beyond her childish worshipping of the very ground her father trod on. The book makes one feels helpless like the main character, like there's no where to run and that everywhere you turn, fate will fight against you. And in the end, one feels regret for the cruel twist of fate where Mariam has to die the way she was born, an illegitimate. All her life, she craves for a little bit of happiness...nope...i guess acceptance, and she died a convict accused of killing her husband. But it was not a death in vain for her death liberated Laila and her children. The irony of it all is she never knew that her father, in the final moments of his life, has sought for her forgiveness and tried to make up to all the cruelty that fate has dished out for her....
Hmmm.....i have not read one as good for a long time now....and i've been thinking of getting the Kite Runner as my next read...soon...very soon....
