Haiku for Independece

My haiku got the second place in the
Merdeka Day greeting competition done by
the History panel in conjunction with the patriotic month.

Always...the BM teachers would win all the prizes...
suprisingly.....the English teachers won too this year...

A simple Haiku to reflect upon...

At times we forget
The sacrifices made
We retaliate

But for love sake
We have to reach out
And make it works

A revised version

At times we forget
Bitter sacrifices made
We retaliate

But for love and peace
Half way meeting is a must
Reaching out for US

My haiku...

I haven't written haiku for quite sometime
now...but i managed to dig up from
my old blog a page on haikus i've written about friends and people
i love...
the title of this entry was:

All haikus...of my life and more...

Haiku…..i love haiku….what is a haiku?Or what are haikus..?tis’ the question…..
Haiku is a japanese short poem…which consists of 3 lines and the basic number of syllabes of the 3 lines are as such:5 7 5. This is considered as the classic or conventional haiku…of course nowadays there are different number of syllables but i simply love the 5 7 5.
The beauty of a haiku lies in the simplicity of presentation of the whole ideas or images presented in just a few words…but those fews words capture the meaning profoundly….that it makes one wonders how can so much be expressed with so little….
Take for example this haiku written about a baby’s hands (3 4 3):
baby’s hands
pink flower buds
unfolding

My first haiku was written on a boring morning that was filled with boring long meetings and usually growling stomach:

Meeting in progress
On and on and on it drags
Argh….such frustation

I have since written so many haikus…mostly describing about people whom i met and intrigued me…and i try to capture these essence…the presence…the memories..the time spent together and also the funny moments in just a few limited words….but the power of imagery is unmistakeable.
Some of my students have tried to figure out how to accomplish this without fully understanding the beauty of this writing style…one or two succeeded…like Jay….the one i used to have Thursday with Mizza…he begs me not to expose it but …well…too bad Jay….i put it up….hahahhaa….

Buns of steel and muscles
Charmingly witty and smooth
Adorable hunk

on dear, dear huggy bear Josh..

Beary Huggy Bear
Horrizontally challenged
sexily charming

Yet to continue after dinner….

On my good friend, Adele…

A burst, inspired
Brilliantly presented
Hillarious muse

Yet on Adele…

A halo with horns
Angelic, devilish charm
Ah…contradiction

On my friend Jojo, which i feel very appropriate…

Waddling mother hen
Lively, kindly boisterous
Big time gossiper

On my lovely 5L2 2005

Noisy, funny, loud
Angelic while demonic
Falling much in love

On falling snow

Softly, gently falls
A flutter, the briefest kiss
And gone…a snow flake

New year haiku to usher in 2006 (written for Jason and those who remember 2005)

A sad year has passed
A new year brings hope afresh
Forward charge we march

These are among the few that i have written in my quiet moments while day dreaming or waiting for someone. I know one who enjoys haiku as much as i do and i learn to enjoy it as much because of her….
In a way…the simplicity of the haiku captures my mood at the moment….

Poem by Yeats

Brown Penny

I whispered, ‘I am too young,’
And then, ‘I am old enough’;
Wherefore I threw a penny
To find out if I might love.
‘Go and love, go and love, young man,
If the lady be young and fair.’
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,
I am looped in the loops of her hair.

O love is the crooked thing,
There is nobody wise enough
To find out all that is in it,
For he would be thinking of love
Till the stars had run away
And the shadows eaten the moon.
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,
One cannot begin it too soon.

Tis' a beautiful poem...truly...a refreshing poem for the young.....those whole are reckless enough to throw themselves into relationship and experience the one emotion calls love....
