Today was a really adrenalin charged day..
not that it is and will be the only day i will feel highly
adrenalin charged...but this is a once in a year kinda thing...
It was really tiring and mind taxing to prepare the students...
This year's group is not as quick thinking as last year's
but they are essentially good girls....
Again girl power....
I love the girls...undeniably so...
but they can be utterly dense sometimes....
They were not able to manipulate facts that they have
read and use them to the fullest...
Mostly immaturity i think but then...Ezzah should be
more quick witted since she's the most senior
among them all...
Maybe my expectation of Ezzah is too high...
or maybe i am comparing her to her sister Aisyah...
these two are like 2 sides of a coin...very different...
Aisyah is like a sponge absorbing everything and very flexible...
she's able to reproduce and manipulate facts that she has read...
Ezzah on the other hand is a bit blur and slow...
she can do it but soemtimes she would appear so stunned
that all the things that we have taught her
are lost in her panic...
and she also stutter a bit...
but she's putting in effort, i know...
it's not her fault....
I hope at the end of the day..
she'll still love me and Azie even though we bashed her up
pretty badly...
Ina, on the other hand, is a working progress...
and we hope that we'll be able to polish her in the next 2 years...
she has hope yet, that girl...
all fire...but less so as compared to Kelly Malik last year...
Anyway....Azie and I were pretty mad over the whole
thingy even though we won...and go state...
There was not enough attacks and aggressiveness in the girls...
They were playing it safe...
and pretty much blur...
It took them 3 minutes to launch the first attack...
Kelly last year attacked in the first minute...
all fire and guts...
I felt like throwing my shoe at Ezzah for staying so quiet
through out the whole nuclear weapon points
brought up by DUMA....
we had discussed endlessly on this topic but well...
I don't know....i don't know what happened to her up there.
The image did cross my mind and it made me smiled...
because i could just imagine the judges' expression
when they saw the flying shoe....
Kalida too was pretty quiet....
Argh...the torture...
The moment they stepped down from the stage...
they got bashed...
Ezzah and Khalida's eyes were red...
They nearly cried...
I know...we seemed pretty mean in the eyes of the
Teriang Hilir's teachers i guess...
for talking non stop and admonishing the girls just as they were still
high on adrenalin....
But that's the way we are...
The kids know what they're in for and they stuck with it...
I know last year all my ex-debaters quit the whole team
because they were scared of being shouted at by Azie
especially...
I have always been the pacifier...
trying to soothe them after each bashing...
but even this year i realised that i have become mean...
so...i really pity the girls....but thank God they are
not quiters...
They did good today...not excellent but good...
still below our standard and hopes....but there is still hope yet in them.
We do not accept perfection but we do have
a certain expectation of the girls...
Azie told me there are some people who questioned us for
our choice in choosing debaters....
why all girls....
Well...i would like to say girl power but
that's really not it....
I don't think the boys are as tough as the girls...
i don't think they boys can take the bashing up from the 2 of us...
i feel the girls are more resilient...
but maybe 1 boy next year....
1 boy and i hope he can take the bashing....
But well, Congrats Uj...
for winning 2 years in a row and for shining
through when we have no hopes at all of winning...
but they pulled through at last...
And congrats to the Drama team too...
though i set a high standard for drama for it is my
one passion that i have to sacrificed..
i do not expet perfection...
but i expected commitment, hardwork and sacrifice....
from people who work under me...
but sadly....i do see these 3 qualities here...
but i hope that things will improve for state level....
for the drama team that is...
11 minutes is not good at all....
that is really under time....
and in a competition...
that is really bad...
Well...go UJ...
show them that UJ can do it...
My debaters....I'm proud of you guys...never doubt that
but you guys need an overhaul....
a really big overhaul...
not that it is and will be the only day i will feel highly
