Chinese New Year in Serian...

I was back in Sarawak on the 2nd of February and spent the whole CNY week in Serian which was really great. Chin only came back on the 5th.
CNY was a busy time....mainly decorating, cleaning and cooking.....haih....Sunday was spent deciding on what cake to make and shopping for the items.....then Monday was cake making day as well as Tuesday...oh...eventually, things didn't go as planned...we only went shopping on Monday afternoon and my sis did most of the steaming of the cakes...i only helped here and there...i did make the biscuits though.
The eve was mainly cooking.....and cooking .....and cooking....there was rosary prayer at 8.00 pm and we had our reunion dinner at 6.30 pm. Everybody came except Mathew and Peter. Mathew came at 9 pm..... by that time, William left already....Father Mien didn't come for dinner on the eve...apparently he mistaken the time on the card that i sent him..he thought it was 9 am...hahahaha....why would we call it reunion dinner if it's at 9 am...
Anyway, after everybody left, there was a quick clearing and cleaning and at 15 mins to 12, Chin and i brought the kids to town to watch the fireworks...
It was really grand...it lasted non-stop for 45 mins at least...longer than the Merdeka Fireworks last year...
The first day was very busy...mainly the guests were my sister's friends...the came in droves...my elder sis and i just stayed in the kitchen doing the cooking. Thank God she was feeling better after being sick for 2 days....i thought i would have to man the kitchen on my own....
Anyway, i did have sometime to train Shasha for her story telling competition...cute girl...she looked so cute telling story.....in between laughters....that is...
I managed to follow my sister to visit her colleague's house who turned out to be my schoolmate when i was in Form 4 and 5....we were in Scout together....and so he remembered me...haha...surprise...surprise....
Chin and I visited Tan, his good friend in Miri who had moved to Kuching. He was with his girlfriend when we were there...so lou....
Anyway...i really enjoyed the one week break though. My father even managed to visit his cousin who is 71 years old this year....they have not seen each other for over ten years and my father discovered that 2 of her cousins had passed away...which is really sad....
It was an emotional meeting for him as they filled each other up on the goings on in their lives. It makes me realise that i do not follow my parents enough in meeting up our relations...i have decided to make it a point to at least bring them to look up their cousins or sisters or brothers and get to know them as ...well....if our parents do not introduce us to our relatives, how would we know them if we were to bump into them someday....i silently reprimanded myself for always not wanting to go anywhere with my parents sometimes because i am too comfortable staying at home..
Well, as of this new Rat year, i will be more proactive...afterall....we'll never know how long our parents will live and be with us in this life, right?
Anyway, it was a good break for me and i think it was for Chin too....mainly because it rained throughout the week....night and day and he had a good sleep because of the weather....
